This album highlights some of Northern Valentine's favorite live moments that were captured on tour and in the studio, between 2007-2012, while revisiting some of their favorite songs to perform.
It features live and reimagined versions of songs, most of which appear in another form on previous recordings, including "Pictures From The Lake", "Leopard's Mouth", "The Distance Brings Us Closer", "Fin de siècle", and "Ribbons".
Four of the songs ("Wings Over The Sun", "The Desert Mile", "White Mountains", and "Thousand Eyes") were recorded during time spent exploring sound together in the studio. They offer glimpses at some of the different paths these songs have traveled over the years.
"Signal Fire" is the oldest live recording on the album, dating back to a house show in Washington, DC, in 2007. "Born Yesterday / Release" was recorded live in Philadelphia in 2009, and features long time collaborator, Ben Fleury-Steiner. "Fin de siècle" was recorded live in Philadelphia, at the 2012 record release show for the album of the same title. "Night Bloom" was recorded live in Huguenot, NY, as part of Electro-Music Fest 2011.
Closing out the album are two songs that may not be as well known, though they have always been favorites of the group. "I Will Cover My Tracks" has been performed live a number of times, but was never before released in any version or format. This version of the song was recorded live in 2008 in Philadelphia. "Adrift" was recorded live in Carlisle, PA, while on tour in 2008. It was previously only available in Iceland, on a long out-of-print tour CD.
If there is one common theme that runs throughout, it is this - regardless of how many times Northern Valentine may perform certain songs, they will always sound a bit different from the last time you heard them.
