The album features five songs that include drums and percussive elements, which frequently accompanied performances and studio sessions between 2006 - 2009.

It might not be the same Northern Valentine that you've heard before, but this sound has always been a part of the group - and life is too short to not share these moments.

Matt's brother, Luke Primak (Appalachian Translator, Garbage Snake), is featured on this recording - as he effortlessly weaves his guitar throughout the songs "Bacchanal", "Communion", "The Crest", and "Dance of the Ragged Spirits".

After an 11 year hiatus since the last album, "Fin de siècle", Northern Valentine has released their third full length album, "The Infinite Bleed". While the music on this album explores territory that feels familiar to those who have been listening, a number of the songs represented here have shifted focus away from the guitars that defined the music on past recordings.

Covering a range of time from 2005 - 2015, the songs include some favorite moments spent exploring sound together. Ben Fleury-Steiner contributes his sound-crafting on the songs "Suppression" and "Penance". The song "Inside" was recorded live at The Random Tea Room in Philadelphia in 2013, and features Jay Baron (Cloudminder) on guitar. The opening and closing tracks, "302" and "The Infinite Bleed", are versions of the first and last songs that were played at their only live performance in 2015.

There are a lot of emotions wrapped within these songs. They are intended to be listened to with your favorite headphones - preferably in a dark room.

Northern Valentine originally released "The Unblinking Eye" as a limited run of compact discs that were available at live shows. Drifting over 35 minutes, the song was the first in a series of improvised guitar meditations that were recorded by Robert, during the summer of 2006. After being out of print for quite some time, the song has finally been remastered from the original recording in 2023.

Joining it in this resurrection, is a never before released live recording of the song "Remain" - which was improvised by Robert on April 5th, 2010, at The Ox in Philadelphia. Like many of the band's songs from this point in time, it was both the first and last time that it was performed.

The album is composed of music spanning the existence and alternating members of the collective, since 1998, and has maintained a carefree, drifting style represented on previous releases; blending some early studio improvisations, like "Sink/Rise" and "The White Mountains", with improvisations, like "Black Rose" and "Fin de siècle", which were handpicked from live performances.

Tucker [Folk & Acoustic Music Exchange] describes this album as..."slow, languorous waves of overlapping tones and progressions that narcotize, invoking a deep sense of catharsis, of subtle release of worldly tensions. At times drear and foggy, then suffused and radiant...meditational in the best notion...a map of inner worlds and the vastness of the inky gulf, an ether to drift off into. If you fall asleep while listening, you're going to have some interesting dreams, but you'll also miss subtle happenstances fading in and out of each composition.

Like Stars of The Lid, Windy & Carl, and label mates, Aarktica, Northern Valentine’s music delivers a sense of floating in space or a communion with nature where the listener is enveloped in clouds of billowing sonics.

The listener’s imagination can run wild creating images to accompany this ambient soundtrack and opener, “Born Yesterday” seems to capture the awe and mystery of an infant floating inside its mother’s amniotic fluid. The heavily treated trio of guitars imbues “Dimanche” with a frightful, almost industrialized aura, which like much of the album could easily serve as a post-modern soundtrack to David Lynch’s underground classic, Eraserhead.

The syncopated sonar beeps hovering in the background of “Escaping Light” add a Floydian touch, ca. “Echoes,” while the extemporaneous piano tinkling adds an air of haunting dread. The set ends with the melancholic-yet-hopeful, “Already Gone” that perhaps signifies that the titular couple [Northern Valentine husband and wife - Robert and Amy Brown] have resigned themselves to the distances that physically keep them apart, yet their love strengthens their relationship and does, indeed, bring them closer.

In sum, an awesomely hypnotic listening experience.

Recorded shortly after the release of their 2008 album, "The Distance Brings Us Closer", Stars Whisper continues the group’s development of indie ambient sounds and explorations of modern psychedelia. Blissed out guitars, keyboards used as percussion and long ringing bass notes join with samples stretched beyond their limits, disassembled wind instruments, electronic children’s toys, pellets, shells, and other electro-acoustic elements to make the sound of a sunken ship resurrected and propelled into space.

Recorded in 2005 - primarily in hallways, closets, freezers, elevators and other found spaces within an abandoned sanitarium - this collection of melodic, ambient fragments is special in its weaving of so many subgenres. Description is somewhat futile. Years of dedicated listening and fearless experimentation has made for a truly unique sonic diary of ghosts; a spiritual paean of many emotions to the dwellers of the lost sanitarium.

The album was originally released as a limited edition compact disc that was available at live shows, before being reissued for a second limited edition of compact discs, featuring custom designed and hand inked packaging from Gears of Sand Recordings in 2008. The album was then re-released digitally by Baresongs Music in 2012, and made available through Bandcamp.

This combination of soundscapes and music would become the soundtrack to the Northern Valentine produced film "Leopard's Mouth", which was created four years after the original recording, in 2009. The film debuted as an audio-visual performance, at The Philadelphia Fringe Festival, at Eastern State Penitentiary, with the band providing a live score.

The digital download comes with 20 screen production stills, "behind the scenes" photos from the making of the Leopard's Mouth recording and film, and a video excerpt of a 5 minute segment of the song "Leopard's Mouth", as it was performed at Eastern State Penitentiary.
